Positive Moods provide quality mental health services to people with disabilities, led by its staff of competent NDIS registered psychologists. Based in Brisbane, Positive Moods puts emphasis on tailor-made mental health plans for individuals with disabilities according to their unique needs and therapeutic goals.

Through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), persons with disabilities can have access to human resources and other services provided by Positive Moods. The NDIS is a support system aimed towards people with disabilities under the age of 65 by providing a variety of services so that they can improve over time and hopefully learn to live a normal life. The NDIS wishes to connect people with disabilities to different service providers that: teach them skills necessary for day to day living, assist in their daily lives as part of a community, and provide early intervention to reduce impacts of their disabilities, amongst other things.

Positive Moods offer individualised mental health treatments to NDIS participants, in the comfort of their own home. Positive Moods recognise the challenges people with disabilities face when it comes to travelling to get these services. Positive Moods wish to eliminate the problem of long-distance travel for mental health services by bringing these mental health services to the individual, including in their own home. This helps create an environment of comfort, the quicker achievement of goals, and more efficient and timely treatment administration.

Currently, Positive Moods is heavily focused on providing psychological help to individuals with impaired capacities, mental illnesses, intellectual disabilities, aged persons, acquired brain injuries, and medical challenges. Through NDIS, participants can design their own goals and Positive Moods will provide support to help achieve the individual’s goals thru means of therapies, assessments, training, and skills development. Such examples of goals Positive Moods helped to achieve with their past clients are: increased community and social participation, attend holiday to visit a family member, go camping, and support of daily care needs such as showering, amongst other things. Positive Moods highly prioritises the participants’ safety and wellbeing and to protect them from neglect, harm and/or abuse.

With a team of highly qualified registered NDIS counsellors who have extensive backgrounds working with people with disabilities, Positive Moods understands that treatment is not a one size fits all situation. These counsellors aim to work with the clients using a tailored therapeutic approach to understand and realise their client's individual needs and goals.

Positive Moods offer both therapeutic support and behavioural support for their clients, and both services are administered as in-home services.

Therapeutic support helps clients to break past mental barriers to allow them enhancement in different aspects that they require in their day to day lives. This can be achieved using methods such as:

  • Individual Counselling

  • Group Counselling

  • Group Therapy

  • Community Engagement Assistance

Individual Counselling

Individual counselling is where a Positive Moods psychologist will spend one on one time with the NDIS client to help them achieve their desired mental health outcome as well as helping the client to gain insight into their lives and to achieve personal goals. Positive Moods aim to facilitate knowledge, emotional acceptance and growth, and the optimal development of personal resources for the client.

Group Counselling Brisbane

Group counselling can provide multiple benefits to clients. Participants in a small group of three can increase their communication skills, build trust and teamwork, learn from one another, connect from shared experiences and build friendships all the while being facilitated by a Positive Moods psychologist. These benefits may help improve the client's community participation such as increased social activities and employment.

Group Therapy

Group therapy, on the other hand, allows for a group of professionals to collaborate for the betterment of the client's life and to help achieve the client's individual goal. The client can use this to maximise the resources NDIS provided such as an art therapist, a social worker, a rehabilitation worker, or an occupational therapist be simultaneously present with a Positive Moods psychologist to help support the client to achieve their goals.

Community Engagement Assistance

The specific goal of the community engagement assistance program is to help multiple NDIS clients improve social interaction/relations and community participation through multiple group sessions run by Positive Moods. This program wishes to empower the participants to have better social interactions and create social networks as well to effectively engage in their community.

Therapeutic support may also require the therapist to coordinate with the client’s caregiver and Support Coordinator to assist to the client to overcome challenges in their daily life including things such as shared living, life transitions, community participation, social, and economic participation.

Another in-home NDIS service Positive Moods provide is Behaviour Support. Specifically, Positive Behaviour Support used as an evidence-based approach to help children and adults correct challenging behaviour. This method will be applied by a Positive Method psychologist to the NDIS client and their caregiver through means of:

  • Special Behaviour Intervention Support

  • Training in Behaviour Management

Special Behaviour Intervention Support

Positive Moods psychologists will provide NDIS clients highly intensive support interventions if needed. This is to address significantly harmful and persistent behaviours of concern identified in some NDIS participants.

Behaviour Management Plan

Positive Moods psychologists can collaborate with the NDIS client's caregiver and relevant stakeholders to develop a behaviour management plan specifically customised to guide the client's behaviour to minimise destructive patterns of behaviour. This may temporarily use restrictive practises as needed, with the intention to minimise the use of these practises over time.

Training in Behaviour Management

Training in behaviour management is used to complement the behaviour management plan. Positive Moods psychologists can run sessions for other stakeholders in the behaviour management strategies outlined in the management plan as required due to the participant’s disability.

Positive Moods is one of the many organisation registered through the NDIS offering health care services to people with disabilities. Positive Moods give their NDIS clients the option of in-home psychological care.
