No disability should keep a person from realising their goals and improving their quality of life. This is why it is essential that every patient has access to the right kind of treatment, and a reliable support system that can help them achieve their goals. However, it can be hard for those tackling mental health challenges to start therapy and find a counsellor who makes them feel comfortable enough to confide in.

Positive Moods understands these difficulties for the people they serve in Geelong. With the help of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, or NDIS, Positive Moods can provide top counsellors to our patients in Geelong, with various methods of support and different services all aiming to aid a patient’s holistic development. At Positive Moods, We Provide Therapeutic and Behaviour Supports

Here at Positive Moods, we offer services to our patients that fall under two different kinds of mental health support: therapeutic support, and behavioural support. These two supports approach problems which are commonly faced by people and pose problems to mental health, such as social engagement and everyday life.

NDIS Counsellors Geelong - Therapeutic Support

Positive Moods provides therapeutic support at Positive Moods to help patients tackle emotional and mental issues, developing self-awareness and reflection.

Individual Counselling

In individual counselling, Positive Moods assigns a counsellor who will engage in one-on-one sessions with the patient to help them to talk through their problems and learn how to be more open about their thoughts. Each session will follow a structure based on every patient’s individual plan for emotional growth, both during and after their mental health treatment. Our NDIS counsellors Geelong will aim to develop better awareness and self-acceptance in patients, as well as teach them vital methods to handle difficult or stressful situations.

Group Counselling

Group counselling is done with a maximum of three participants at Positive Moods, allowing patients to derive support from their peers and learn new things from each other. By sharing stories and discussing their thoughts, patients learn to connect with others and develop friendships. Patients will also be able to derive strength by meeting more people who have similar experiences, and eventually will be able to have a wider, more open perspective on life.

During group counselling, patients can both set goals as a group and discuss their own individual goals with other participating patients. This service also prepares patients for eventual, more active participation in Geelong community life, encouraging them to become more socially active or even engage in employment or hobbies that will enrich their lives. Improved communication is one of the best benefits of this service!

Group Therapy

When patients undergo group therapy at Positive Moods, they will receive help from a team of different mental health workers, all professionally qualified and well-trained. The team will consist of NDIS Providers and professionals from Positive Moods—NDIS counsellors Geelong, psychologists, occupational therapists and social workers are just some of the different people we employ to provide high-quality mental health support.

By having a team that targets different aspects of their plan to improved mental health, patients have greater chances of improved mental health and recovery from mental illnesses.

Community Engagement Assistance

Community Engagement Assistance is a service which aims to improve a patient’s social participation and community engagement, by creating stronger support networks and guiding patients through potential interactions. These are conducted via group sessions.

Behaviour Support

Negative or challenging behaviour patterns can have a harmful effect on mental health. At Positive Moods provides three types of behaviour supports designed to address this concern and to teach patients to develop positive behaviour that will help them achieve their goals.

Behaviour Management Plan

In this form of support, Positive Moods’ psychologists collaborate with a patient’s caretakers and relevant stakeholders to create a custom behaviour support plan. This plan can have some restrictive practices if needed, with the aim of minimising these negative practices and teaching the patient to use alternative, more positive ways of handling challenges.

Behaviour Management Training

Designed by Positive Moods to be a complementary service to behaviour management plans, this training allows psychologists to conduct sessions with patients’ stakeholders and develop systems that will improve a patient’s behaviour management.

Specialist Behaviour Intervention Support

If a patient’s behaviour is dangerous and causing harm to themselves or others, Positive Moods offers intensive intervention tailored to address the patient’s needs and conditions.
