NDIS Counselling Brisbane
Everyone has a different idea about what the term “counselling” means, but when we find ourselves wanting emotional or mental help, this is the term we all use. Counselling or therapy is a process used to change the way we mentally approach a situation, in order to improve our overall well-being and quality of life.
Everyone’s issues are unique to them which is why counselling is a very effective approach, where each session is customised to the individual’s needs. It is done in a comfortable and confidential surrounding, to ensure the client feels relaxed when expressing themselves with a qualified counsellor or psychologist.
Thanks to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), the participants can choose the type of counselling they want to undergo to resolve their mental health issues.
With the NDIS, the participant is in control of choosing the services that are most suitable to their needs and goals, including how the services will be delivered and where it will be done. Each of the services provided can be tailored to a participant’s specific requirements and can be changed as required.
Benefits of Counselling
Counselling is significant because it gives the participant a chance to work through a problem or issue with a person who is trained to help sort through the emotional turmoil that can be hard to get out of alone.
Diagnosis - If you are suffering from a diagnosed mental health condition, such as a psychosocial disability, counselling can help you learn the necessary skills and coping mechanisms to be able to improve daily living.
Confidentiality - All information disclosed and discourse in therapy will not be shared with anyone without the express consent of the client. Counsellors are professionally trained to listen to the most intimate details of a person’s life and are legally bound to maintain confidentiality.
Skills - Counselling can help develop certain skills and communication tools necessary to be involved in the community. Service providers offer the needed education, resources and tools to develop and strengthen a wide range of social, personal and interpersonal skills.
Change - Counselling is a very powerful and transformative process. It can make life adjustments for an individual that can steer their path for the better. These changes can help them achieve their life goals and aspirations.
Talking is a great way to get things out so they don’t bottle up. Counselling is a good place to start talking; about concerns you have; help you need or what you would like to accomplish long term. It can help develop all the necessary skills and strategies to move towards achieving these goals. It is a very empowering process using your own resources to make everlasting changes in your life.
At Positive Moods, we are aware of the impact a disability can have on an individual’s life. That is why we offer an extensive range of support to help you be the best person you can be for yourself and loved ones, even through tough times. Our aim is to provide a comfortable and supportive environment to be able to discuss your concerns and ways to manage and improve them.
Positive Moods counsellors and psychologists are registered under the NDIS. We can provide things like in-home counselling sessions for NDIS clients who find themselves unable to travel or can’t afford the transportation costs to attend sessions in our offices. Your NDIS psychologist or counsellor will get to know you, the journey you are on and goals you wish to achieve.
The counsellor is not there to tell you what to do or how to do it, but to encourage you to talk and share your expectations of yourself and the assistance you want from them. Our counsellors and psychologists will help you identify and wok through your issues to achieve your goals
Some of the responsibilities of the registered counsellors and psychologists at Positive Moods are to:
Evaluate the client’s needs and make a suitable treatment plan;
Teach coping mechanisms to fight stressful and traumatic situations;
Help clients to reach their personal goals with the resources available to them;
Monitor a client’s progress and adjust their treatment plans as necessary; and
Coordinate with other providers, healthcare agencies and communities in order to create a personalised treatment plan.
When working with Positive Moods, you usually start by sharing what your short and long term goals are. Together with the service provider, you can create a plan that suits your specific goals and aspirations. A great way to measure progress is to acknowledge each achievement and milestone as you reach them. Your service providers are always adjusted along the way to reflect your achievements. Positive Moods offers a range of services that can all be a part of your NDIS Plan:
Individual Counselling (including in-home counselling);
Group Counselling;
Group Therapy; and
Community Engagement Assistance.
Positive Moods is a registered NDIS Provider administered by the NDIA in Brisbane. Accessing counselling through the NDIS will ensure that the support you received will be tailored to suit your needs while the quality of the service is not compromised. As you receive your individualised funding through the NDIS, you have control over which support services will be available to you. If you have decided counselling is one of the services you would like to include, you can work with your NDIS support worker and Positive moods to determine how many sessions would be of most benefit to you. Deciding to seek the help of a counsellor or psychologist can be daunting and a little scary at first. At Positive Moods, we can help make that first step a little easier. We also provide therapeutic supports.
