ADHD Assessments

An ADHD assessment is a specialised evaluation conducted to diagnose and assess Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterised by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that can significantly impact an individual's daily functioning, academic performance, and social interactions.

The purpose of an ADHD assessment is to gather comprehensive information about an individual's symptoms, behaviours, and functioning across various settings (e.g., home, school, work). This evaluation helps determine whether an individual meets the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis and provides valuable insights into the severity of symptoms and their impact on daily life.

During an ADHD assessment, the process includes the following components:

  1. Clinical Interview: We’ll conduct a detailed interview with the individual and their parents or caregivers, if applicable. This interview aims to gather information about the individual's developmental history, symptoms, and impairments.

  2. Rating Scales and Questionnaires: Standardised rating scales and questionnaires are used to collect information from multiple sources, such as the individual, parents, teachers, and other relevant individuals. These assessments provide insights into the presence and severity of ADHD symptoms.

  3. Behavioural Observation: We will observe the individual's behaviour and interactions to gain a first hand understanding of their behaviours and difficulties.

  4. Psychological Testing: In some cases, additional psychological tests may be administered to assess cognitive abilities, academic functioning, emotional well-being, and other related factors. These tests help rule out other conditions that may contribute to or mimic ADHD symptoms.

  5. Collateral Information: We may request information from other professionals involved in the individual's life, such as teachers or healthcare providers, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the individual's functioning across different environments.

Following the assessment, we will analyse the collected information and compare it to the diagnostic criteria outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). A complete diagnosis (if applicable) and recommendations will be provided for appropriate interventions and support strategies tailored to the individual's specific needs.

Please note that this assessment does not guarantee a diagnosis of ADHD.
